John Prendergast
Mr Prendergast is a former Special Adviser to the U.S. State Department where he specialised in conflict resolution initiatives in Africa. He worked closely with Special Envoy Anthony Lake on the Eritrea-Ethiopia negotiations, and also advised Central Africa Special Envoy Howard Wolpe. In addition Mr Prendergast was involved in overall policy development and implementation for Africa.
Prior to joining the State Department, Mr Prendergast was an Executive Fellow of the United States Institute of Peace, and before that, Director for African Affairs at the National Security Council, where he provided support to the President, the National Security Adviser and successive Senior Directors on overall Africa policy.
Throughout his career, Mr Prendergast has focussed on development and reconciliation issues, and has travelled widely in Africa. He has published numerous articles in the media and academic journals and is a regular commentator on TV and radio.
