• The Project Director heads a team of researchers and an office manager in the ICG Andean countries offices (Quito or Caracas + Bogota office), reporting to the Vice President (Operations), who also serves as Latin America Program Director, and to the President. The Project Director will supervise the work of a small team of specialists responsible for producing high quality research, analysis and reporting. The Project Director will also oversee the preparation of report drafts. He/she will be based either in Caracas or Quito- for a period of at least 12 months, conducting research and advocacy work in Colombia and in the Andean Region. The Project Director will be a flexible, very mobile person who will travel extensively in the region, from Bolivia to Venezuela.

• Help establish a research agenda designed to contribute to the objectives of conflict prevention, containment and resolution;
• Coordinate and supervise the analysis and research to produce high quality reports and briefings in implementing that research agenda;
• Provide professional leadership, vision and direction to the work of the Bogota and the Andean countries offices as well as supervising personnel, budgetary and administrative matters in the operation of the offices and the research team;
• Contribute to the advocacy activities of the project;
• Supervise the production of approximately four reports and four briefing papers in the course of the year and help conduct the required research in order to prepare these;
• Supervise the translation of reports into Spanish, and with the assistance of the primary author, ensure that translations are accurate and of good quality; and
• Work closely and maintain professional rapport with representatives of governments and international and local organisations in gathering information, seeking input and feedback, and supporting the distribution of ICG reports.

• Strong research experience in the social sciences with significant policy experience, or experience in government, international organisations, NGOs or the media, with a substantial policy analysis component. Experience in the field of conflict prevention is a strong asset. The ability to formulate strong and well-targeted policy recommendations is essential;
• Strong knowledge of Colombia, the Andean countries, and Latin America as a whole, preferably with experience on the ground in one of the Andean countries;Fluency in English with strong English-language writing skills (approximately on the level of an educated native speaker) and Spanish for purposes of fieldwork, written and oral communication with the governments and the press of the Andean countries. Portuguese is a plus.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including good public presentation skills, a strong capacity for effective teamwork and experience in a supervisory capacity; and
• Skills in office and information technology.

• Conducting extensive field research into prevailing security, social and political conditions in the Middle East;
• Proposing policy initiatives by the relevant governmental and non-governmental actors to address the underlying issues that feed grievances;
• Preparing detailed reports and briefing papers setting out relevant research findings and policy recommendations; and
• Advocating ICG's findings and recommendations to key officials and policymakers in the region and abroad and to the media.

• Deep knowledge of the region;
• Demonstrated research and analytical skills;
• Sound policy judgment;
• Experience in a similar field-based position in the government/ non-Governmental sector;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language; and
• Excellent local language skills.

• The International Crisis Group is seeking a senior analyst to head ICG’s planned office in Kathmandu. The job involves working under the South Asia Project Director (based in Islamabad) and with three colleagues in Kathmandu to produce reports on conflict and governance issues in Nepal. The job requires strong editing and drafting skills, a good policy knowledge and awareness of conflict issues. The job will be for two years with no guarantee of an extension beyond that.

• Conducting extensive field research into prevailing security, social and political conditions in Nepal;
• Proposing policy initiatives by the relevant governmental and non-governmental actors to address the underlying issues that feed grievances;
• Preparing detailed reports and briefing papers setting out relevant research findings and policy recommendations; and
• Advocating ICG's findings and recommendations to key officials and policymakers in the region and abroad and to the media.

• Experience in Nepal or in conflict areas in a similar field based position, government or non-Governmental sector, is essential;
• Sound policy judgment and demonstrated research and analytical skills;
• Masters degree with 1 up to 2 years studies in an English speaking university;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language (preferably mother tongue); Nepalese language skills would be highly desirable;
• Good leadership, personal skills and experience in interviewing and advocacy are essential; and
• Willing to travel under difficult circumstances in Nepal and elsewhere.
