Joost Hiltermann

Joost Hiltermann was executive director of the Arms Division of Human Rights Watch in 1994-2002. Before that he was director of HRW's Iraq Documents Project. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and has been an adjunct professor at Georgetown University and the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies. He is currently writing a book on the use of chemical weapons in the Iran-Iraq war through grants from the Open Society Institute and the MacArthur Foundation.
