Carole Corcoran
Carole Corcoran joined the New York Office of the International Crisis Group as General Counsel and Director of Special Projects when the New York office opened in January 2001. Before joining ICG, Ms Corcoran practiced international law for more than seventeen years, specializing in corporate, employment, securities and banking law. She has a broad range of experience dealing with global statutory, and regulatory and compliance issues. From 1991- mid 1999 she served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Sanwa Securities (USA) Co. L.P, the US primary dealer and wholly owned subsidiary of The Sanwa Bank Limited (for much of that time one of the largest banks in the world). As a member of the Executive Committee, Ms Corcoran reported directly to the Chief Executive Officer, advising on all management issues. As General Counsel, Ms Corcoran also reported to the Chief Executive Officer and had primary responsibility for all global legal and compliance matters for not only the US primary dealer but for its domestic and foreign financial subsidiaries and affiliates. Prior to joining Sanwa, Ms Corcoran worked from 1983-1991 at the New York law firm of Seward & Kisser specializing both in representing US and foreign financial institutions and investment banks before federal agencies and in developing new products for the capital markets.
Ms Corcoran brings extensive not - for - profit experience to the position. From July 1997 until joining ICG, Ms Corcoran served as Of Counsel to ICG on a pro bono basis. She is also a Member of the Legal Committee of the International Refugee Committee, and serves as pro bono Counsel to The Buddhist Ray, Inc, a not- for- profit corporation that publishes Tricycle, The Buddhist Ray.
Ms Corcoran obtained her JD degree from New York University Law School in 1983 and her BA degree magna cum laude from New York University in 1979.
